ADVICE FOR THE NEW YEAR

At the very least, I will try not to leave people waiting and give blood again this year.

My mind is never more ready to follow good advice than on New Year’s day. Yes, I was feeling the effects of my birthday celebration and asking why again.

Holly Butcher, who passed away at 27, has set thumbs raising with beautiful, inspirational words on her final Facebook post. This is like the CliffsNotes version of that self-help book you were thinking of buying. It’s a Warholian fifteen minutes to be proud of. Read it

I also started following designer and communicator, William Paterson. He has good advice for self-doubting graphic design and artists out there. It hit home, as I was struggling in the throes of a new branding project. Watch it

If you don’t have 10 minutes, here’s the quotes.

NEIL YOUNG MAY HAVE PROVIDED MY FAVORITE GIFT THIS HOLIDAY

Young is still making a big deal out of audio quality, ever since the iPod became a thing. He has just released his entire music catalog in something simply-titled Neil Young Archives, because your streaming music service sucks. This has the same tactile feeling as having a couple of cold ones and going through an old box of records. It’s not just every piece of music from almost six decades; It’s the artifacts, crummy photos, and knick-knacks you can sort through. This may be the best online archive I’ve ever seen of someone’s career. His creative output has been amazing. A cantankerous Young will give you an exhaustive personal tour, but it’s fun to just poke around the place. Enjoy it while you can for free, streamed in high def, as only Neil would have it.  Hear it
