Always at the ready, just in case.

I discovered an easy way to make a custom pizza slice at home in only twelve minutes, with no prep and clean up (if you plan right). 1. Buy Naan bread in the frozen section at your market. You can find for $1.99 at Trader Joe’s. 2. Get your sauce of choice. I usually have a jar of marinara or refrigerated pesto. 3. Buy shredded cheese. Trader Joe’s 3-cheese blend works nicely or grate some if you have time.

Cooking Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees (that’s as high as it goes). I recommend a pizza stone for maximum crispiness. 2. Add sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings (mmm.. Salami) on your frozen naan big slice. 3. Throw in the oven. Now turn down to 450 and check at 10 minutes. 12 minutes works for me. Enjoy!

I always have this at the ready just in case. After a few months, this still gets me excited from my poor planning. So it’s not just a fad. Add a salad and you are golden. Make the slice your way. Kids, family, or houseguests can make their own too. It may be kind of fun for them.

Here’s one version I make. It’s a little more involved. Let me know what you come up with!

3 ‘Shroom Pizza

Sliced white, crimini, and portobello mushrooms

Shredded mozzarella cheese

Olive oil

Pesto sauce

Crushed fresh garlic

Marsala cooking or red wine

Naan bread

Marinara (optional)

Seasoning (optional)

  1. Heat olive oil one minute then saute sliced mushrooms on the stovetop for three minutes on medium high. Add wine and cook about three minutes more on high. Liquid should be almost dissolved. Add garlic and cook one minute more on low.
  2. Add to prepared pesto and mozzarella Naan slice. I will sometimes add marinara to pesto (optional).
  3. Throw in the oven. Season if necessary (optional).
